Qualcomm Unveils The First 5G Smartphone

While research regarding the next generation of mobile networks- 5G- has been going strong for quite a while, there is currently no device in the market which supports the upcoming technology. Leading chip manufacturer, Qualcomm, is on its way to change just that.
Sherif Hanna, marketing lead for LTE and 5G NR modems for Qualcomm, recently took to Twitter to reveal the world's first 5G capable handset. His tweet read, "Hard to believe that I have the world's first 5G smartphone in my hand!".
Although Hanna didn't reveal much about the 5G smartphone, the attached image showcases a glass backed smartphone with a dual camera setup and Qualcomm Snapdragon branding. According to Digit, the smartphone in the image is just a prototype for the purpose of testing and optimizing 5G technology, but it's safe to assume that 2018 is going to be the year of 5G smartphones.
