Many Pixel 2 Phones Are Being Bricked By Android 8.1 Preview Factory Images

The freedom to flash the latest Android version is what makes any Pixel or Nexus device an attractive choice. But now, several XDA members have reported that they are unable to flash their Pixel 2 devices with the latest Android 8.1 Preview factory images released yesterday.
It is still unclear whether this issue is arising due to hardware or software problems, as different users have reported different errors. XDA member, Daniel Marchena, reported that he tried flashing the new firmware using different cables and even PCs, tried several commands only to meet failure at each end. Ron Amadeo from Ars Technica reported failure in returning to previous Android builds.
As it is unclear what is leading to the problem, it is best to wait for an OTA update if you don't want to brick your phone and lose data.
